HIP HOP WEEKEND! BUTTS OFF!" – DANCE COMPETITION

The Health Promotion Board will be organising a "HIP HOP WEEKEND! BUTTS OFF!" dance competition in November 2007. The event aims to promote a smoke-free and healthy lifestyle among youth through the choreography of their hip hop dance with smoke-free messages weaved in.

The dance MUST clearly include the following specific anti-smoking messages in the form of a slogan, cheer, rap, testimony or actions. Other appropriate props, costumes and innovative ways of presenting the anti-smoking messages are also encouraged.
(1) Smoking is a bad habit.
(2) Smoking is addictive.
(3) Smoking is not cool.
(4) Smoking does not help me lose weight.
(5) Shisha and ‘light’ cig

If nothing goes wrong again, all SYF crew will get on stage on 8th August 2007. Graduating students will have to attend the practice after exam. And so, the choreography of the chinese dance won't be changing and as for the modern dance performance, it won't be cancelled because it involves too many sec fours. This is a win-win situation! =P

the hangtens in singapore has limited supplies of size s, so i'm getting m to replace the size s. size m is only 1cm more on each side than size s. so it really makes no difference. and besides, the material's stretchy, so it'll fit snugly. all the seniors and a few size s people will get their sizes changed to m.

the tanks will be from hangten. but i'm afraid there won't be enough of them for everyone. therefore we're going to get some from other stores. and there is NO xs. i repeat, NO XS. so don't come whining to me on why you got a s and not an xs.

seniors, i was thinking i get you guys the tanks from this fashion. the material's better than the usual this fashion material, but the cut is different from hangten's. i'll try to locate mine and show you guys k? but i'll only use the this fashion one if there is seriously no more s sized tank tops in singapore.

for those who actually VISIT this blog, the dance tank top and shirt will no longer be provided by hangten and giordano.

reason being, hangten has no more stock and DOESN'T WANT TO GET BACK TO ME. and giordano DOESN'T WANT TO CALL ME BACK. so the shirts will be supplied by the printer.

it's much faster and cheaper this way too. =)

there are two choices for the dance tee, one's a tank top from hangten and one's a normal t-shirt, supposedly giordano. we'll check it out soon.

i need to finalise my orders by 25th may 2007. so those who weren't here today for the meeting (no it wasn't held for this, but i made good use of time. yay.), please do TRY to contact me. hunt me down in school or something. i'm currently having a horrible chinese intensive training camp where we are only restricted to doing chinese papers day after day after day. so i'll be at the fourth floor, classroom nearest to the toilet. not the one with the water cooler, the one beside the comp labs. (i think?).

P.S: if you don't contact me i take it you don't want the tee.

Trainings for Chingay Parade:

1st Hip-Hop Training Session:
16 Feb 2007 2.30pm at Kallang (Students will be excuse to leave earlier to get ready to go Kallang for training!)

2nd Hip-Hop Training Session:
Will be confirm later on..

Participants are required to go through 1 to 2 sessions (1.5 hour per session) of Hip Hop training depending on group size and be part of the half lane participants cum performance on Chingay Parade on 23 and 24 Feb 07!!
On parade day, students will view the Chingay performance and be part of the performance in one parade item only. Students will perform base on what is taught during the dance lesson.

Below are the timing for the parade:

23 Feb 2007 (Friday) Preview: 7.30pm to 10.30pm
24 Feb 2007 (Saturday) Actual Parade: 7.00pm to 10.00pm

Reporting time: Students need to be seated at the parade group 15 mins before parade start.

If there's any changes, I will inform the participants!!

I'm in sec 4 this year n i'll be leaving soon(not so soon actually, at the end of year), i'm sure i'll miss dance ensemble. So, join us ! You wun regret it ! You'll love dancing too !

You will be able to take part in SYF, DanceWorks, Awards Ceremony, Chingay, n you'll have chances to take part in many other competitions n performances ! So, it is a rare experience that you will have !

Hello, dancers. I'm here to tell you the practices again. Actually, there's only one lar.. Hehe.. Ok.

There will be a Sec1 Orientation Dance Practice next wednesday, 27 December 2006, from 1000 to about 1300. You mus come !!! We will try to finish the whole dance by then.

Hopefully, there will be more than 8 ppl. We will be expecting more ppl to turn up. Those who have not been coming for the last few lessons, you hav missed quite a lot. So, you better come n learn quickly. We will also be polishing the steps. So please come !!!

N.. For those who know the dance blog user n pwd, you can post anything you wan lar.. But post nice things, k ? Hahas.. You can log in friendster or whatever lar. The user n pwd is about the same.. Shhh. Opps. Ok. For those who dunno but wish to know, you can ask me, emily or marianne. If they still rmb. BUT ! It's ONLY FOR MEMBERS OF SJC DANCE ENSEMBLE. N pls leave your name behind. Hey, Dancers.. There will be dance practice for the sec1 orientation again. This time, it is very important. If you dun come, you will not be able to dance for the sec1 orientation. So, you MUS COME !!!

The practice is on this coming monday, 18dec2006 it starts at 0900. It will end at around 1200 ?

You may be able to see the costumes for SYF. Therefore, it is a must to come ! =) Come for the sake of the costume ? It's jus a sample. So, you will be able to make comments n edit it to your liking. So, if you wan your costume to be nice, you mus come ! Hehe. Ok.

Please come to school on Monday, at 0800. For measurement. This is for both the international n chinese dancers. It should be in the dance studio. Also, it is advised to bring along a pair of shorts. So that you wun feel awkward.

In case some of you did not check the notice board, there are practices during the holidays. If i remembered correctly, the dance practices are on the 4th n the 6th of Sept, 1300 to 1600. The practices are for SYF. I am not sure whether it is for the chinese or international dance. The paper jus wrote "SYF Practice[s]". I forgot whether got "S" or not le.. haha..yep !

please be informed that there's going to be 2 practices for the sec1 orientation dance next week on the following dates stated:
6 December 2005 (tuesday) 9 am - 12 pm
9 December 2005 (friday) 9 am - 12 pm

attendance is compulsory! and please come as we have to take the measurements for the costumes and it has to be done by next week. There might also be more practices but the dates will be confirmed soon. Please be there by 9 am sharp because we have to start straight away as we have not much time left to polish up the steps.

Those who have ballet shoes, leotards(any colour) and ballet tights, please bring them along as we might be needing them.

For those who have not paid the dance fees for these two months, please do so before friday 9 december 2005. and since the fees is for november and december, please bring along $2.

If you do not have any pair of ballet shoes, please order them from me and give me your shoe size (British sizes. preffably) it only costs $9.90 per pair.

we might gonna have a Dance Camp from the 23-25 November in skool!
cool right? we can learn new components of dance like salsa, hip hop and how to choreograph a dance...and the most interesting thing is that we can organise a trip to the Singapore Dance Theatre! woohoo!!!
